One of my favorite authors, Ray Bradbury, said "We need not be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?" 

I think we get so wrapped up and so comfortable in our lives that we don't even want to think about the things that are important. About the things that are real.
