So I was thinking about it and I was like, you know what? I think It's really cool that we, the human race, understand and realize the importance and impact of what other human beings say. And if you think about it, they're just words. If we read the words
but, who, give, they, get, take, used we don't marvel over them because they're just words. But then when somebody selects a couple of those words to put in a certain order, they become beautiful and magical and they can start to mean something to us.
It is impossible to say exactly how many words there are in the English language because it is hard to decide what counts as a word.(for example,
read and
read. Does it count as one word or two?) But we can estimate. As of January 2012
The Global Language Monitor estimated that there are about 1,019,729.6 words (how is there.6?) in the English language. So we as English speaking human beings only have one single set of about a million words to choose from. But what's really interesting is the way different people arrange them differently. Dumb teenage boys on Facebook will take words from the English language and place them in the worst ways possible. But people like Ghandi and Ray Bradbury will say the most beautiful things using the same exact set of words that dumb teenage boys use.
That's why I think it is amazing that people can take our set of words and make something so angelic. They use our ordinary set of a million words to create something totally different and astonishing.
